Create and manage chat rooms

How to create group and private chats and manage chat rooms in Team Chat.

Written by Egor Dubrovsky

You can create group and private chats with your team and manage existing rooms — renaming them, muting them, managing members, and clearing history.

Before you begin

Team Access — you need a team to use Team Chat.

Create a chat

  1. Go to the Team Access panel, then select Team Chat.

  2. In the chat list, select +.

  3. Select the team.

  4. Choose the chat type:

    • Group chat (team owner only): enter a Room Name and select the members to add.

    • Private chat: leave Room Name empty and select one member.

  5. Select Start Chat.

Filmustage creates the room and opens it.

Note: Only the team owner can create group chats. Team members can start private one-on-one chats. A team owner can have up to 20 group chats; a team member can have up to 10 private chats.

Manage a chat room

Select the dotted menu on a room in the chat list. The available options depend on the room type and your role:

  • Mute / Unmute — any room. Muted rooms stop notifying you and appear dimmed in the list.

  • Rename Room (team owner; group or team chat) — select Rename Room, enter a new name, then select Save.

  • Manage Members (team owner; group or team chat) — add or remove members.

  • Clear History (team owner) — removes all messages from the room.

  • Leave or Delete — leave a group chat, delete a private chat, or, as the team owner, delete a group chat.

Saved Messages and the team chat cannot be left or deleted.

Caution: You cannot undo clearing a room's history or deleting a room.
