What is script annotations

Overview of the annotation tools on the Script tab — marks, text boxes, stamps, shapes, drawing, comments, and layers — and how to manage them.

Written by Egor Dubrovsky

On the Script tab, annotations let you mark up your script without changing it. Annotations sit on top of the script — they do not change the script text or your tags, and they do not use Dude Coins.

The annotation toolbar

Open a project, go to the Script tab, and use the annotation toolbar above the script page.

  • Highlight, Underline, and Strikethrough — mark words and lines. See Highlight, underline, and strike through text.

  • Text box — add a free-floating note anywhere on the page. See Add text boxes.

  • Stamp — add a label such as OMIT, ADDED, or REVISED. See Add stamps.

  • Shape and Draw — add rectangles and ellipses, or draw freehand. See Draw freehand and add shapes.

  • Comment — discuss a specific part of the script with your team. See Comment on the script.

  • Select — pick an annotation to edit, move, resize, or delete it.

  • Eraser — drag across marks to remove them.

  • Show/Hide — hide or show all annotations at once. This affects only your view; it does not delete anything.

  • Undo and Redo — reverse or repeat your recent changes within the current session.

Tip: Keyboard shortcuts — "V" Select, "H" Highlight, "U" Underline, "S" Strikethrough, "T" Text box, "K" Stamp, "C" Comment, "E" Eraser.

Delete annotations

Select any annotation and press Del to remove it immediately, without confirmation. To clear several freehand marks quickly, use the Eraser.

Layers

Annotations are grouped into layers you can show or hide, so you can keep separate sets of notes on the same script. A layer can be private to you or shared with your team. See Organize annotations into layers.

Plans

Annotation tools are available on all plans, including Free. Team layers — any layer that is not marked Private — require Team Access. You can add comments on any plan; seeing your teammates' comments requires Team Access.
