Add text boxes

Add free-floating text boxes anywhere on the script page. Format, move, resize, and rotate them. Available on all plans.

Written by Egor Dubrovsky

Text boxes let you add free-floating notes anywhere on the script page on the Script tab. Unlike highlights or comments, a text box is not tied to specific words — you place it wherever you want.

Note: Text boxes are annotations. They sit on top of the script, do not change the script text, and do not use Dude Coins.

Before you begin

  • Open a project that already has a script uploaded.

  • Open the scene you want to annotate.

Add a text box

  1. Go to app.filmustage.com, and then open your project.

  2. Go to the Script tab.

  3. On the annotation toolbar, select Text box.

  4. Click where you want the box, or drag to draw it at the size you want.

  5. Type your text.

  6. Use the formatting toolbar to set Bold, Italic, or Underline, adjust the font size, and choose the text color, fill color, and alignment.

  7. Click outside the box to finish.

Filmustage adds the text box to your active layer.

Move, resize, or rotate a text box

  • Move: drag the box to a new position.

  • Resize: drag a corner handle.

  • Rotate: drag the round handle above the box.

Tip: Hold Shift while rotating to snap to exact 15° steps. Without Shift, the box rotates smoothly to any angle.

Edit or delete a text box

  1. On the toolbar, select Select.

  2. Select the text box. Edit its text, restyle it with the formatting toolbar, or select the trash icon to delete it.

Plans

Text boxes are available on all plans, including Free.
