Organize annotations into layers

Group annotations into layers and switch them on or off. Make layers private or shared with your team. Personal layers on all plans; team layers require Team Access.

Layers let you group annotations and switch whole sets on or off on the Script tab, so you can keep separate sets of notes on the same script. The Layers section is in the panel on the right.

Note: A Private layer is visible only to you. Any other layer is shared with collaborators who have annotation access to the project in Team Access.

Before you begin

  • Open a project that already has a script uploaded.

Create a layer

  1. In the Layers section, select New layer.

  2. In the New annotation layer dialog, enter a Name and choose a Color.

  3. To keep the layer visible only to you, select Private layer (only you can see it). Leave it cleared to share the layer with collaborators.

  4. Select Create.

Filmustage adds the layer and makes it active. New annotations go to the active layer.

Set the active layer

When you have two or more layers, select a layer in the Layers section to make it active.

Show or hide annotations

  • Use the checkbox next to a layer to show or hide the whole layer.

  • Expand a layer to show or hide annotations by type.

Rename, recolor, or delete a layer

  1. Select the options menu (the three dots) next to a layer.

  2. Choose Rename, Change color, or Delete.

Caution: Deleting a layer permanently removes every annotation in it. Filmustage asks you to confirm first.

Plans

Personal layers are available on all plans, including Free. Team layers — any layer that is not marked Private — require Team Access.
