In the Script tab, the Summary tab, or the Reports tab, you can edit a tag's name, notes, scenes, category, Cast ID, reference image, and unavailable dates from a single Edit Tag window.
Before you begin
Open the Edit Tag window
You can open Edit Tag from any of the three tabs:
Summary or Reports tab — point to a tag in the category list and select the ✏️ pencil icon next to it.
Script tab — two ways:
In the left-hand category panel, point to a tag and select the ✏️ pencil icon.
In the script text, select a tag, and then in the inline popup, select the ✏️ pencil icon.
Rename a tag
In the field at the top of the window, edit the tag name.
Note: CAST tag names are automatically converted to uppercase. Tag names must be unique within the project and limited to 200 characters.
Edit notes and view coreferences
In the Notes field, add or edit descriptive text — character backstory, prop specifications, location details, costume requirements, etc. Filmustage uses your notes in AI Dude prompts and other features that surface tag context.
If the tag appears under multiple names or pronouns across the script (for example, her, SARAH CHEN, she, Sarah's), Filmustage shows them below the Notes field as Coreferences. The Coreferences row is read-only and updates automatically. For details on how Filmustage detects coreferences, see How tag co-references work.
Add or remove scenes
Use the Selected Scenes dropdown below the tag name to control which scenes the tag belongs to.
Procedure
Select the Selected Scenes: N dropdown.
In the list of scenes, select or clear the checkbox next to each scene. The number in parentheses next to a scene shows how many times the tag appears in that scene.
Select Save to apply.
View statistics and jump to scenes
Below the Notes field, Filmustage shows automatic statistics for the tag:
Scenes — total number of scenes where the tag appears.
Appr. — total appearances (the number of times the tag's name is mentioned across the script).
Pages — combined length of all scenes that contain the tag.
DOOD — number of scheduled working days for the tag, excluding Hold days. Shown only when the tag has scheduled shooting days.
Select the chevron next to Scenes to expand the scene breakdown. Each scene number is a clickable link that opens that scene in the Script tab. In multi-episode projects, scenes are grouped under Episode 1, Episode 2, and so on.
Mark dates as unavailable
Use the Unavailable Dates calendar to mark days when the tag — typically a cast member — is not available for shooting. Filmustage uses these dates during scheduling to surface conflicts.
Procedure
Select 📅 Unavailable Dates to open the calendar.
Select any date to toggle it as unavailable. Unavailable dates are marked with a red dot.
Optional. To remove all unavailable dates, select Clear all.
Select Save to apply.
The calendar also highlights the tag's scheduled shooting days using Day Out of Days (DOOD) codes pulled from the Scheduling tab:
🟢 SW — Start Work
🔵 W — Work
🔴 WF — Work Finish
🟡 SWF — Start / Work / Finish (same day)
⚪ H — Hold (a non-working day between two working days)
Note: If you mark a date as unavailable that already has a scheduled shooting day for this tag, Filmustage shows a 🚩 conflict flag with the number of conflicting dates next to the Unavailable Dates button. Hover the flag to see the list of conflicting dates.
Change the tag's category
To move the tag to a different category (for example, from PROPS to SET DRESSING):
Select the category dropdown at the bottom of the window. It shows the current category (such as CAST).
From the dropdown, select the new category.
Select Save.
Caution: Moving CAST tags to another category permanently removes their Cast IDs. You cannot undo this action.
To change the category for multiple tags at once, see Change a tag's category.
Set a Cast ID
The ID field appears only when the tag's category is CAST. The Cast ID determines the order of the cast member in DOOD reports and on call sheets.
Procedure
In the ID field next to the category dropdown, enter a number between 1 and 32767.
Select Save.
Note: Each Cast ID must be unique within the CAST category. If the category dropdown is set to anything other than CAST, the ID field is hidden.
Add or manage a reference image
Filmustage lets you attach a reference image to any tag — useful for cast headshots, prop references, location photos, costume swatches, and more. The image appears as a preview on the right side of the Edit Tag window.
Use the icon buttons next to the category and ID fields to manage the image:
🔍 Search image — open the built-in image search to find an image online.
🖼️ Upload image — upload an image file from your computer.
🗑️ Clear image — remove the current image. Disabled when no image is set.
📋 Copy link — copy the image URL to your clipboard. Disabled when no image is set.
💾 Download image — download the current image to your computer. Disabled when no image is set.
Save or delete the tag
At the bottom of the Edit Tag window:
Select Save to apply all changes and close the window.
Select Delete to permanently remove the tag. Filmustage shows a confirmation message before deletion.
Note: Deletion scope differs by tab. From the Script or Summary tab, Filmustage removes the tag from the current scene only. From the Reports tab, Filmustage removes the tag from all scenes in the script. See Delete a tag (Script), Delete tags (Summary), or Delete tags (Reports) for details.
